It’s a Sandhills area first! Six weeks of professional summer theatre…three exciting, entertaining contemporary shows receive their Sandhills area premieres in the 1st annual JTC Summer Theatre Festival in the intimate McPherson Theatre at Bradshaw Performing Arts Center (BPAC) with some of the most talented NYC professional actors we’ve ever brought to Moore County. And tickets are on sale now!
We’ve chosen two musicals and one play for our inaugural festival season, which begins with Gutenberg! The Musical! (July 22-31) by Scott Brown & Anthony King, authors of Beetlejuice the Musical. This side-splittingly hysterical musical is performed as a backer’s audition by Bud Davenport and Doug Simon, authors of a musical about Johannes Gutenberg, which they are pitching to Broadway producers. Because they don’t have a cast or an orchestra, Bud and Doug play all of the roles themselves!
Next is one of the biggest hit comedies of recent years, Buyer & Cellar by Jonathan Tolins. Alex More is a struggling actor in L.A. who takes a job working in the basement mall in Barbra Streisand’s Malibu, California home. An outrageous comedy fantasia about the price of fame, the cost of things, and the melancholy that lurks beneath narcissism, Buyer & Cellar “goes down like buttah.” —Entertainment Weekly
The festival will conclude with tick, tick…BOOM! the musical sensation by Jonathan Larson, the author of Rent. the show tells the story of Jon, an aspiring composer in New York in 1990 who is worried he made the wrong career choice. If you loved the recent hit movie, you’ll definitely want to see the original stage version.
