AUDITIONS: Judson Theatre Company will be having local auditions for To Kill a Mockingbird by appointment only for several roles (including the children’s roles) in Moore County on Monday, July 28 and Tuesday, July 29. Professional actors and experienced non-professionals are welcome to audition. Audition time and location will be included in appointment confirmation. Scout- age 9 or 10, is courageous and forthright. If a question occurs to her, she’ll ask it.

Jem-age 12 or 13, on the cusp of manhood. Trying to understand the world around him.

Dill- age 11 or 12, small for his age and wise beyond his years. Sees Atticus as a father figure.

Calpurnia- 30’s-40’s, she has raised the motherless Scout and Jem. Self-educated African-American woman with high standards.

Mr. Cunningham- 40’s-50’s, poor farmer who shares the prejudices of this time and place but who is nevertheless a man who can be reached as a human being.

Reverend Sykes- 40’s-60’s, minister of the First Purchase Church. An imposing African-American man with a strong presence.

Heck Tate- 40’s-50’s, town sheriff. He does his duty as he sees it, and enforces the law without favor.

Stephanie Crawford- 40’s-50’s, a prejudiced town gossip and enjoys it to the hilt.

Boo Radley- 30’s, a recluse, afraid of people but has a spot in his heart for Scout.

Nathan Radley- 30’s, shy brother of Boo.

Mrs. Dubose- 60’s, an ill woman who is bitter and angry.

Tom Robinson- 20’s,  handsome and vital African-American man with an undercurrent of kindness and sensitivity.

Mr. Gilmer- 40’s, public prosecutor, his manner is at times cruel and hurtful but has doubts about the guilt of the accused.

Bob Ewell- 40’s-50’s, a cruel, little bantam-cock of man who seeks importance.

Mayella Ewell- age 19, desperately lonely and abused daughter of Bob Ewell.

Walter Cunningham- age 9 or 10, classmate of Scout.

Clerk- 40’s-60’s, court clerk.

Link Deas- 40’s-60’s, Tom’s employer who believes in his innocence.

Local rehearsals begin in Moore County on/around September 17. Show opens Thursday, October 2 and runs through Sunday, October 5. Some daytime rehearsals required for some characters; evening rehearsals required for all.

Stipend provided to Local Hire actors. Housing and transportation are not provided for Local Hire actors.
